What to see in Capri?

Capri is one of the most beautiful and characteristic islands of Italy: it is a small island (in fact composed of only two municipalities), but it is a true natural work of art, which has fascinated the Roman emperors since the time of Tiberius, musicians of every age (think for example of Claude Debussy who wrote a piece called "Les collines d'Anacapri" inspired by the beauty of the landscape), up to Hollywood stars like "atomic" Rita Hayworth and the jet set national of this century, with the likes of the poet Pablo Neruda and the stylist Emilio Pucci, who inspired by these places created the famous pants called "Capri". This is why Capri is a must for those coming to these areas.

What to visit in Capri: Blue Grotto Experience

What to see in Capri if you are passionate about the sea and geology? Then your luxury experience will focus on the Blue Grotto, a karst which opens in the north-western side of Capri, which, as mentioned, is part of the municipality of Anacapri.

It is an ancient maritime nymphaeum dating back to the time of the emperor Tiberius, who remained then for several centuries unknown until 1826 when the German August Kopisch rediscovered it.

The peculiarity of the Blue Grotto is its partially submerged opening from the sea; in this way the external light that filters in creates an intense shade of blue, which gives the cave its characteristic color, which for centuries had been believed by the inhabitants of Capri to be inhabited by spirits and demons.

From the rediscovery of the Blue Grotto, it was fully inserted since the nineteenth century in the coordinates in the Italian itineraries of the "Grand Tour", persuading the rich European travelers to venture also on the island of Capri.
